Discuss the evolution of symphonic sound as musical communication as you consider the evolution of the symphony through the following examples: Haydn’s Symphony #94, Beethoven’s Symphony #5, Berlioz’s March to the Scaffold (Symphonie Fantastique) and finally Mahler’s Symphony #6. Discuss each in terms of its structural characteristics (form, style, instrumentation, size of orchestra, emotional intensity) and how the use of the sonata-allegro form and symphony developed over this span of 150 years
