In this assignment, you’ll be exploring conflict while having a few laughs and embellishing a real event with some fictional elements.
First, let’s pretend that the backstory went something like this: Natalie and David were both scheduled to perform at a benefit concert, but no one knew that the two were planning to perform the same song until just hours before the concert! At this point, the two had a bit of a conflict, as they couldn’t very well do the same song twice in one evening, the audience wouldn’t appreciate it.

Based on the fictitious backstory and the video that you watched, analyze the following elements based on Chapters 9 and 11 as well as previously covered class material. Be sure to support each answer with specific quotes or ideas from the text as well as evidence from the video and story. Feel free to “embellish” the story, but explain when you do so. Address the following in your paper:
• Apply the elements of attraction theory to the scenario: appearance, proximity, similarity, complementarity (see pages 283-286). Do you think Natalie and David will form a social relationship? Why or why not? Support your answer with evidence.
• How does the conflict between Natalie and David meet all the criteria of the definition of conflict: expressed struggle, interdependent parties, incompatible goals, scarce resources, interference (see pages 350-351)? Clearly explain each element and apply it to the scenario.
• Who do think has more power in this scenario, Natalie or David? Or do they have equal power? Why do you think so? What type of power does the (or each) character have: reward, coercive, referent, legitimate or expert (see pages 366-367)? Support your answer with evidence.
• Based on the video, what strategies have David and Natalie used to manage their conflict: competing, avoiding, accommodating, compromising or collaborating (see pages 374-375)? Why did you select this strategy over the other choices? Support your answer with evidence.
Write a 3-4 page paper in which you explore your analysis and these four elements. Be sure to include appropriate citation, thorough explanation, and evidence from the video, explore additional concepts from these and previous chapters related to the scenario and video.

Pick ONE of the following activities to complete
1. Research various personal digital assistants (PDAs) that are available for medical personnel to purchase. What kinds of features do they offer? If you were to purchase one or be asked to recommend one, which one would it be and why? Give a link to the the PDA you would recommend along with a discussion of the top three and why you would pick this one. 2. Search the Internet for companies that offer an electronic medical record. How do the services offered compare? Look at the top three. If you were to be asked to recommend one, which one would it be and why? Give a link to the one your would recommend along with a discussion of the top three and why you would pick this one. You need to go into depth in your discussion do NOT just copy and paste information from websites into your post. Your Post Title should read EMR.

3. There are now apps being developed for the electronic health records that you can use for your phone or the iPad. Check three different apps and explain the benefits and problems with each. Which would you pick? Give the link to the one you liked the best along with a discussion of the top three and why you would pick this one. You need to go into depth in your discussion do NOT just copy and paste information from websites into your post. Your Post Title should read APPS.

4. Your physician’s office is either thinking of going to electronic medical records, in the beginning of the transfer, or have had the for awhile and have integrated them into their practice. You need to talk to one of the people working at the office and ask them about their impression of the process. YOU NEED TO INCLUDE THE NAME OF THE SYSTEM THEY ARE USING. If they haven’t yet started – why? What system(s) are they looking into. If they just have started or recently started – how’s it going? If they have had it for awhile now (at least 2 years), how has it changed the way they work? OR if you work in a physician’s office tell us about the experience of your office in transitioning to the electronic medical record along with the NAME OF THE SYSTEM THEY ARE USING. In whichever of these scenarios you pick you want to give details of the process and talk about both the pros and cons. You need to include the system they are using then find an online reference for that system. DO NOT give the name of the physician’s office! Your Post Title should read CONVERSION.
