Using the information in Table 1.1 of the textbook, identify five different materials that you encounter or use on a daily basis, and identify a mineral that is mined to supply each of those materials. Can you think of any considerations, other than economic, that might prohibit or limit the mining of certain minerals?

3. When examining the geology of a region for potential useable aquifers, what characteristics or factors would you consider? Also, taking into account certain natural and human factors, which areas would you avoid?

4. What are some of the drawbacks to building Flood-Control Dams? Explain how a reservoir behind a dam can lower its own capacity for storage and ultimately greatly reduce its effectiveness.
