literacy, power, and privledge

Donaldo Macedo and other Freiereans have defined literacy as not just reading the word” but reading the world. How is literacy (reading, writing and basic numeracy) linked to the distribution of power and privilege? How does race, class and gender affect this power? Use domestic and/or global examples. Please only use peer reviewed journals for your sources. Discuss how and why minorities, poor people, and women have not received an equal distribution of power and privilege.
