Research Report Instructions

1. You are to write a short research report on any topic related to adult development.

2. You must use at least three references that are dated within the last 3 years. These references may be books, journals, magazines, newspaper articles, etc. You may only use 1 reference from an online website.

3. If you take words out of the textbook to make a point, you must give proper credit or you run the risk of plagiarizing someone else’s work. Proper credit involves citing the source of the work, its date of publication, the author’s name, and the page number where the information came from. In addition, the text should be enclosed in quotations. Papers which have been plagiarized will receive a score of zero. All papers will be submitted to an online source which will check for plagiarism.

4. Your paper will consist of the following sections:

A. Introduction: State your topic and state why you chose this particular topic.

B. Body:
1. Identify which stage adult development you are writing on. In other words, discuss whether the paper pertains to young adulthood, middle adulthood, or late adulthood.
2. Identify which aspect of adult development you are writing on. Discuss whether the paper addresses social, cognitive, physical, or emotional.
3. Summarize the results of current research on your topic. Current means published within the last 5 years. You must relate the research to specific material presented in the text. You must identify the chapter and specific concepts that your paper addresses.

C. Conclusion: State what you learned from the material. Relate your findings to the material covered in text. You must relate your conclusion to specific terminology that is related to the topic covered. Tell how the research is similar to, different from, contradictory to, or supplementary to the material covered in class and in the text. Include your general thoughts, impressions, ideas, or comments about the information gathered.

5. Please proofread your work before submitting it. You will lose points for excessive spelling, grammatical, and punctuation errors.

6. Format: Your paper must by typed, double spaced, and at least 4-to-5 full pages in length. The title page and list of references does not constitute part of the page count. Failing to meet the minimum requirements for length will reduce your score by 7 points. You must use a 12-pitch font for the type set
