Vampires

What do you think makes vampires such a popular and enduring monster – the subject of so many different stories and movies?  What is it about the vampire that’s so fascinating?  And do you think that vampire stories have changed over time?  It certainly seems that modern day movies and shows are a long way from the Dracula we see in Stoker’s novel, are there any similarities?
