Question 1

The artwork selected is a drawing that features two women and a baby. The artist uses shades to develop the artwork. The drawing uses stencil, charcoal, pastel, and ink in developing the various shades needed for the painting. The second work is a painting of natural surroundings with the focus being on a tree and the sunset overlooking the ocean. The setting provided by the artist focuses on the natural environment, which can be termed as a romantic approach given the allure of the natural elements in the painting. The third artwork is a painting depicting an urban centre or city with its respective natural surroundings. The intentions of the artist were to illustrate the contrast and complimentary factor between manmade and natural surroundings.

The first painting is representational given that it is developed using real life characters or individuals with an aim of expressing various emotions and messages. The second artwork is abstract given that it illustrates appreciation by the artist for the natural surroundings. The third artwork is representational romantic artwork as it depicts the interactions between natural and manmade surroundings. The artist uses this as a means of communicating his or her respective appeals towards urban centers as they blend with their respective natural surroundings.

1. Line: this is provided accurately in the romantic painting featuring a big tree overlooking the ocean in the setting sun.
2. Shape: the first drawing uses human shapes, which can be termed as indefinite and lacking accurate description. This provides a realistic account of the intentions of the artist in presenting ideas to the public.
3. Tone: the tones used in the three artworks are varied. The artists emphasize on the use of space in developing the tone of their respective works. The first work has a strong negative and melancholic tone as the author uses to communicate sadness, despair and confusion.
4. Texture: the first artwork has a rough texture, which has been used to illustrate confusion and other negative emotions. The other two paintings are artfully developed with soft textures to illustrate positive emotions and the intentions of the artists.

The three artworks provide differing themes. The first work was developed to illustrate sadness or grief in the light of possible loss, sickness, or familial problems by the individuals who are in the piece. The second artwork uses romanticism as a form of appreciation of natural surroundings of the artist. The third artwork is a romantic painting that depicts a modern city in its various aspects. It is an incorporation of both and manmade surroundings to highlight the contrast brought about by modernization.

The three artworks provide differing artistic themes, intentions, and attitudes of the artists. The artists use art as a means of communicating their respective emotions to the audience without using words. In addition, there is also the need to provide the audience with a means of developing their respective and differing opinions and understanding of the same artworks. This is effective in the communication of various ideas in the artwork.  The three artworks provide and illustrate contrast in terms of romantic and impressionist artwork.
