STEP 1 – Think about your own individual career and degree plans and the coursework requirements for that degree.

What is your degree area?
What are some of the key courses that will be involved in your degree plan?
What are some specific topics, among the courses, that you will need to master?
In which of those topics do you think you are strong, based on experience or knowledge?
In which of those topics do you think you are weak?
What are some things you can do individually to strengthen your knowledge in critical areas before you get into the coursework itself?

STEP 2  Summarize your thinking in a brief essay. Use research to support your own ideas.

In an essay, discuss the following items:
(a) What is your career goal?
(b) What is your degree goal?
(c) What are one or two course topics, related to your degree, in which you consider yourself strong?
(d) What are one or two course topics, related to your degree, in which you consider yourself weak?
(e) What are some things you can do individually, either in or out of school, to strengthen your knowledge in critical areas, before you get into the coursework itself? How can a knowledge of adult learning theories help you?

Use APA format for this essay, and use research as it may be appropriate to your ideas. Include a title page, an abstract page, and reference page, in addition to the body of your essay.
