C: Annotated Bibliographies or Critical Annotations
An annotation is a summarized description of a lengthy article. In critical annotation
assignments, you will describe the article’s content and themes in 2-3 pages.
Due : November 29th
• Titles and subtitles are typed in bold lettering.
• Using APA format, provide full bibliographic information of the article
• Summarize the article’s contents in terms of major points and themes
trying to be addressed
– Your written assignments must be typed.
– All written assignments must be double spaced.
– Use one-inch margins on the left, right, top, and bottom of the page. These margins are wide which leaves room for reviewer’s comments.
– Use normal paragraphs in which the first line is indented five characters.
– Use a 12-point font.
Annotations must be written in your own words. If not it is considered plagiarism.
Citations in the Text
If you use someone’s words or ideas, you must give them credit with a citation in the form of a paraphrase or direct quote. paraphrasing: summarizing facts from a source
Since this paper is an annotation and you are summarizing an article, it is understood what the authors have written, so there is no need to cite what they wrote unless it is exactly their words, a direct quote or a secondary source within their article.
SECONDARY SOURCE
When it is necessary to cite a source that you have not read (“Smith” in the following example) that is cited in a source that you have read (“Santrock” in the following example), use the following format:
– If you cite something second hand, you must make it clear (e.g., Some fact (Smith, 1988, as cited in Santrock, 2005)). Note that in this example, only the Santrock would be placed
in the reference section.
2) QUOTATIONS
– You must provide page numbers for direct quotes.
For example, Junus (2008) noted that “infrequent reinforcement is better in maintaining behavior than small frequent reinforcement” (p. 91).
Display a quotation of more than 40 words as freestanding block of text indented 5 spaces from the left margin (single spaced). Omit the quotation marks and include the page number in parentheses after the last period. Also, if the quotation is more than one paragraph, indent the first line of the second and any additional paragraphs 5 spaces.
