Unions and Labor Relations

Assignment 1 Instruction:
•        Minimum of 3-4 pages of content plus a properly formatted cover page
•        References list at the end with at least three (3) NEW sources in APA format. Providing additional sources in your assignments demonstrates your desire to conduct additional research to enhance your understanding about the topic area and will improve your research skills.
•        In-text citations, in APA format, within the body of your work for each of your listed References, to distinguish your original thoughts or ideas from the portion of your work that is taken from credible sources to support your thoughts and ideas. Beware of plagiarism!
•        MS Word document uploaded as an attachment (.doc, .docx, or .rtf). DO NOT write or copy text directly into the submission box.
•        Write in this Font:  Times New Roman, in 12 point size
You may follow question and answer format, but when using sources I expect you to cite those using APA format (both in-text citations and a reference list).  For questions 3 and 4, I will be looking for you to support your answers with peer-reviewed sources (found in the library and typically not websites – never “wiki”!).
Please read chapters 1 and 2 (eBook text) and submit your written answers to the questions below:
1. As you read the information about unions in the introduction in Chapter 1, did you find that you already had a basic understanding of unions or was the information somewhat foreign to you? Explain your response – what did you already know about; what was new to you?
2. What do you think you will be most interested to learn more about, regarding Unions, and why?
3. Who were the most effective union leaders during the 1930s and 1940s? What are your criteria for effectiveness? Would these same leaders be effective now?
4. Explain what a sit down strike is and whether or not you believe it to be effective to resolve disputes, in general.
