Eye Design Controversy

Eye Design Controversy

In the first article, the eye has been defined as an organ that detects light and sends it to the brain through its light sensitive retina. The human brain consists of 12 billion cells while the retina of the eye has over 10 million photoreceptors cells. The retina is the one that is connected to the brain by converting light patterns into complex electric signals, which are then sent to the brain. The evolutionists have been asking themselves whether the eye system can be designed. They compared the system that processes the signal in the retina with the most sophisticated computer, the Cray supercomputer. They found out that it would take a minimum of 100 years for the supercomputer to process the signals as compared to what your eye processes after every second, meaning that if we were using the supercomputer instead of the eyes it would take 100 years to view something for one second. The evolutionists have greatly accepted that there is no chance of designing the system of an eye.

In the second article, the eye has been studied to see whether it evolved or it is a perfect example of an intelligent design. It is argued that if the eye could have evolved, it would not be true since each part of the eye needs one another to work perfectly, as the retina needs the lens to work perfectly. Therefore, there is no way that one could have evolved before the other. Evolutionists have defended it and said that the lens and the retina could have evolved all at the same time. The evolutionists have countered the intelligent design by saying that the complex structures of living organisms could only have evolved from a simple structure but with a given amount of time. With the help of natural selection and a couple of generations, the eye has evolved systematically to form the complex structure it is. Despite the fact that the intelligent design states that many organs and structures could not have evolved, it cannot be ignored that many organs and structures also have roots from which they came from hence they evolved from it.

The third article explains how some processes were created but it does not fully give the whole explanation of the process. It also dismisses the intelligent design since it does not give clear evidence to support its facts. If the intelligent design were followed, it would mean that human beings were built by other beings from the outer space rather than evolving. Evolutionists brought there argument on how human beings evolved with some amount of substantial evidence. This means that the eye evolved but it does not explain how the eye evolved. However, the intelligent designers support their case by asking the evolutionists the question, how could such a complex structure like an eye could have evolved from a simple structure? Nevertheless, if we believed the intelligent designers, it would mean we were not even created by God.

Scientists have tried to come with ways in which they can build an eye but they have come to an agreement that the eye cannot be built. They have also come up with different theories of how the eye came into being and why it is a complex structure. The evolutionists have argued that the eye evolved from a very simple structure to the complex structure it is, through a series of steps at given times and generations. Through means of natural selection over many years, the eye has evolved to become complex. On the other the hand, the intelligent designers have argued on how such a complex structure could evolve since most of the parts of the eye cannot work without the other like the lens and the retina. It can be concluded that the eye has evolved and that it cannot be an intelligent design since it could contradict the fact that, the system of an eye cannot be built.
