The book, Kaplan Act Math and Science Workbook is one of the essential curricula books, and it was written by Kaplan. It is a fundamental book for children studying math and science subjects in school. It provides the students with diverse math practices and science questions that help them to build a good foundation in math and science. The author reveals different math concepts and strategies such as algebra, trigonometry as well as plane geometry and many others (Kaplan, 2011). Each section of the book has a review and some set of practice questions with full explanations and answers. This helps the students to improve their performance when studying mathematics. The section of science is related to the scope and format. It centers on the major science concepts of the Act’s science content. These concepts are three, and they include data representation, conflicting passage view and summaries on research.

The book, Teaching Mathematics Creatively was written by Linda Pound and Trisha Lee. It provides incredible approaches as well as a vision for developing creative math and science classrooms for students. It encourages active engagement, decision making and provides a driven feedback for learners. It provides a diverse range of learning math and science strategies in order to enable the trainee to take an innovative teaching approach in the classroom. This book has diverse practical approaches for making mathematics real when teaching. The exciting techniques and ideas used make it possible for teachers to teach students in a creative way. It reveals the ways teachers can use imaginative ideas such as literary story telling and play in order to bring the subjects alive for better understanding (Pound and Lee, 2011). It also inspires children through finding and solving the problems as well as uses patterns in teaching math creativity.

The math concept that I will use in the book, Kaplan Act Math and Science Workbook by Kaplan to teach students is plane geometry. Plane geometry is an essential math concept that deals with a wide range of topics. It covers lines as well as angles such as perpendicular, acute, obtuse and straight angles. In the part of science concept, I will use Kaplan’s book to teach research summaries. This is because it is essential for students to learn the ways of carrying out research in sciences. The research summaries contain graphs and tables similar to data representations. However, in research summaries, graphs and tables are used in testing the student’s understanding of the scientific method (Kaplan, 2011). Graphs and tables serve as visual aids in understanding science concepts. Nevertheless, the science skill that I will use in the book Teaching Mathematics Creatively by Pound and Lee to help teach students is the use of imaginative ideas especially literary narrative telling. This is crucial because use of imaginative literary story telling helps to make the science subject ideal (Pound and Lee, 2011). Additionally, it will help to grab the attention of the students because many students take science subject to be a boring subject. Thus, incorporation of literary story telling skills will help in making science an interesting subject for children.

The activity that I will do with the students as an extension of each story in helping to teach the concepts or skills is incorporating play activities and allowing children to work on team points. Pound and Lee (2011) point out that a teacher can allow children to take football cards in school and spend their time in swapping cards, calculating points and comparing the scores of the cards. This is essential because it will enable the student to develop essential skills for learning science and math well. The teacher can extend this interest and use them as a means of helping to foster the use of concept words. This is because the cognitive development of children becomes active when participating in activities and allowing children to interact with one another or work as a team.
